Dr Sandra Rothwell, Managing Director
Sandra is an experienced and dynamic professional, delivering high quality impact. Before creating her own business, she was the Chief Executive of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership – one of the most highly regarded partnerships of its kind – and personally led a number of national initiatives based on sectors, funding programmes and beyond-city development.
With creative flair she has led multi million pound enterprise, innovation, development and regeneration programmes in England, Wales, mainland Europe, Africa and the United States. With a strong track record in her field, she has a significant level of credibility with business, government and academia and is active across global economic networks.
Very much a strategic thinker and leader, her academic background mixed with a hearty degree of pragmatism and 20 years of leadership experience ensures ROTHWELL. operates as a leading global consultancy. The business is based on a set of values which underpin Sandra’s desire to create a client-led focus, and an approach that has a clear offer.

Shoulder to shoulder
We work alongside our clients and become ‘one of the team’ for the period of our contract. This means we roll up our sleeves and get involved. We don’t like writing reports that tick a box and sit on a shelf – we like to co-create real impact and positive change alongside our clients.
The leading edge
We like to work with places and organisations that feel ‘on the edge’. That might be the edge in a geographical sense – operating in places at distance from the market; or on the edge in terms of new thinking. We especially like working with businesses who are discovering the opportunities of new tech in their work.
Innovation and creativity
We have a deep interest in finding the best solutions to achieve the most impact – however ‘out of the norm’ they first appear. We abide by the rules when we need to – but don’t like to get constrained by them. Our confident approach based on many years of practical experience supports this value.
Small is beautiful
We recognise that innovation and development can grow best in the smallest places and organisations. We love working with smaller clients where we can often achieve the biggest impact.
Environment & Inclusion
As a business we want to give something back. We donate one month per year of our services for free to support economic inclusion. #thatisall.
Everything we do, we do for you, the environment and to promote economic inclusion. Our green credentials are hugely important to us and how ROTHWELL• is run. It’s great when we can share what we do with our clients and even better when we get to on projects that promote environmental growth, natural capital and a circular economy approach.
We also try to give a little bit back. ROTHWELL• donates one month per year of its services for free to support economic inclusion activity.

“Your professionalism is exceptional, but even rarer, in some trying times for all of us… are the patience, politeness and good humour that characterises how you work”.
